Give Back Health Clinic Collection MagSleep is manufactured and tested in TGA-registered GMP facilities here in Australia, ensuring high standards of quality, safety and efficacy. Every product, every batch, with no exceptions. This means the included ingredients are what they claim to be and the products are therefore more likely to have an actual therapeutic impact. This process also prevents counterfeit and adulterated materials from entering the market. While it adds significantly to our costs, we believe this level of integrity should be the industry standard. Please note that we absorb the extra expense ourselves; it is not passed on to you.

We use:

Magnesium citrate is a highly bioavailable and well-researched form. Glycine is included in MagSleep at a clinically validated therapeutic dose. To get the same glycine dose using magnesium glycinate, you'd need a significantly higher magnesium intake, which would likely cause gastrointestinal side effects like diarrhoea. MagSleep allows you to get the full benefits of both ingredients without overloading the system, or underdosing the glycine.

Yes, but with a small caveat. While the magnesium component remains stable in warm drinks, glycine and theanine can degrade when exposed to high heat and there's no stability data available for Sleepatonin®/Herbatonin® when exposed to higher temperatures. If you're adding MagSleeep to a warm beverage, avoid boiling water and drink it soon after mixing for best effect. Our recommendation is add to a room temperature or cold beverage and consume immediately.

Give Back Health Clinic Collection MagSleep is suitable 30 minutes before bed to aid sleep architecture and may cause drowsiness if taken during the day.

Give Back Health Clinic Collection MagSleep has a very slight herby profile, with a mild sweetness contributed by the L-glycine which is naturally sweet. There are no sweeteners or flavours added.

The Sleepatonin®/Herbatonin® within MagSleep contains alfalfa (Medicago sativa), a herb naturally rich in polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins. These compounds are known to darken when exposed to oxygen, heat, or moisture, and in some circumstances can form dark localised clumps during storage.

Many people report feeling the effects within about 30 minutes.

Due to the L-theanine component, the dosing recommendation is specific to the adult population. Only use in children under the guidance of a qualified healthcare practitioner. Dosage and need should be carefully assessed.

This product is designed to offer clinicians peace of mind and patients’ better outcomes, supporting targeted use in a range of clinical applications.

  • Levodopa/carbidopa: Magnesium can reduce the bioavailability of levodopa/carbidopa. These ingredients should not be taken together.
  • Antihypertensive drugs: L-theanine might lower blood pressure, potentiating the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
  • Do not give to patients taking prescribed pharmaceutical sleep medications.
  • May cause daytime sleepiness/grogginess. Do not operate machinery or drive within 4 to 5 hours after supplementation.

At Give Back Health, we follow a conservative risk/benefit approach and recommend healthcare practitioners assess use on a case-by-case basis, depending on individual patient needs, context and response to treatment.

  • Magnesium: Likely safe in pregnancy and lactation when used appropriately. The Natural Medicines Database rates oral magnesium intake up to 350 mg/day as safe within this population. MagRelax® delivers 350 mg per 5.3 g scoop.
  • L-Glycine: While Glycine is not specifically contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation, there is insufficient reliable evidence so we recommend a risk/benefit approach to use.
  • L-Theanine: While L-Theanine is not specifically contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation, there is insufficient reliable evidence so we recommend avoid use. Use a risk/benefit approach during pregnancy and lactation due to insufficient safety data.
  • Sleepatonin®/Herbatonin®: Due to insufficient reliable data, we recommend avoid use. Use a risk/benefit approach during pregnancy and lactation due to insufficient safety data.

Conventional melatonin is created from either the pineal glands of animals or more commonly petrochemicals. Sleepatonin®/Herbatonin® is bioidentical to melatonin and is an all-natural alternative, containing rice, alfalfa and chlorella. Our Sleepatonin®/Herbatonin® material is standardised to 1% melatonin, which we independently validate at NICM in Australia.
As each dose of MagSleep contains 50 mg of Sleepatonin®/Herbatonin®, this means each dose contain 0.5 mg of melatonin (the physiological dose).

Give Back Health Clinic Collection MagSleep is most commonly used alongside our Mood-D®, Ashwagandha Clarity, Multi VMN, GABA, Curcuma Phospholipids and RejuveGen® for additional support, depending on clinical goals.

Yes. MagSleep is often used in combination with complementary nutrients and products, such as:

  • GABA
  • Zinc Picolinate
  • Mood-D®
  • Saffron + Zinc
  • Meno-P

When building a protocol, consider total magnesium intake and avoid overlapping ingredients if already present in other formulas.

Yes of course! MagSleep was developed as many practitioners were already regularly compounding a version of it. Whilst the dosages offered in MagSleep are the most frequently used and considered effective for most, you can add any of the following ingredients to adjust the levels of any ingredient:

  • Sleepatonin®
  • MagRelax®
  • L-glycine
  • L-theanine

When building a protocol, consider the following dosage ranges:

  • The common dosage range for magnesium is 350 – 700 mg/day
  • The common dosage range for L-glycine is 3 – 9 g/day
  • The common dosage range for L-theanine is 100 – 400 mg/day
  • Sleepatonin®/Herbatonin® contains 1% melatonin. The physiological dosage range for Sleepatonin®/Herbatonin® is 30 – 80 mg/day (equivalent to 0.3 mg – 0.8 mg melatonin). The jet lag or shift work dose is 100 mg – 300 mg (equivalent to 1 mg – 3 mg melatonin.

Absolutely. This can be mixed with any other extemporaneous compounding powder product in the Give Back Health Clinic Collection. MagSleep allows you to get the full benefits of both ingredients without overloading the system, or underdosing the glycine.

Yes. MagSleep contains only magnesium citrate, glycine, theanine and Sleepatonin®/Herbatonin® with no flavours, fillers or sweeteners, which makes it generally well tolerated. As with all magnesiums, some patients may experience mild softening of stools at full-dose levels due to the inclusion of magnesium citrate, so it may be useful to start with a lower dose and build gradually. You can adjust the levels of theanine, glycine and Sleepatonin®/Herbatonin® with our compound ingredients if you need to slowly titrate the dose.

Give Back Health Clinic Collection MagSleep has a very slight herby profile, with a mild sweetness contributed by the L-glycine which is naturally sweet. There are no sweeteners or flavours added.

Sleepatonin®/Herbatonin® contains alfalfa (Medicago sativa), a herb naturally rich in polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins. These compounds are known to darken when exposed to oxygen, heat, or moisture, and in some circumstances can form dark localised clumps during storage.

If you're adding MagSleep to a warm beverage, avoid boiling water and drink it soon after mixing for best effect. Our recommendation is add to a room temperature or cold beverage and consume immediately.

Give Back Health Clinic Collection MagSleep is suitable 30 minutes before bed to aid sleep architecture and may cause drowsiness if taken during the day.
If you’re looking for a magnesium suitable for daytime use, you might like to consider MagRelax® or MagRegulate®.

To make this choice easy, we’ve supplied a handout to easily assess the differences to consider when deciding between MagRelax®, MagRegulate® and MagSleep for your patient.

  • Use MagRelax® to relax and nurture the central nervous system (CNS) when under excitation or oxidative load (e.g. alcoholism, drug use, serious mental health presentations). Use day or night.
  • Use MagRegulate® to regulate a range of processes and systems once the CNS is relaxed and more receptive to taurine. Use day or night.
  • Use MagSleep to support restorative sleep architecture, particularly in patients with stress, anxiety or mental health presentations impacting sleep onset, maintenance and/or quality. Use at night.

Mag Comparison Chart

Due to the L-theanine component, the dosing recommendation is specific to the adult population. Dosage and need should be carefully assessed.

Despite this, a 2011 randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial involving 98 boys with ADHD between 8-12 years demonstrated no adverse events after taking 400 mg of L-theanine for 6 weeks.

Magnesium, glycine and melatonin have all been shown to be safe in paediatric populations. However, dosage depends on the age and weight of the child and how sensitive they are to supplementation. We generally recommend practitioners start by addressing the foundations of sleep hygiene, diet, exercise, blue light exposure, etc. prior to starting at lower doses of MagSleep.

  • Magnesium and glycine are reportedly safe for long term use.
  • Long term supplementation of L-theanine presents no adverse events after 4, 8 and 12 weeks of supplementation.
  • Physiological doses of melatonin (between 0.3-0.9 mg) as present in one dose of MagSleep (0.5 mg melatonin), has been shown to be suitable for long term use and enhances changes of feeling refreshed upon waking.
