FAQ

Give Back Health Clinic Collection L-Theanine is a practitioner-only nutritional supplement that provides a bio fermented 100% pure medicine-grade L-theanine. It comes in powder form and is designed for extemporaneous compounding and prescribing under practitioner supervision.

Give Back Health Clinic Collection L-Theanine is a practitioner-only extemporaneous compounding product. This means it’s designed to be prescribed by a qualified healthcare professional who will guide the dosage based on your individual needs. The product is not intended for self-prescription. Additionally, this therapeutic category means we are unable to provide further info to the public about its benefits and application.

As this is a practitioner-only extemporaneous compounding product, we're unable to share detailed information about its benefits or specific uses with the general public. For personalised advice, please speak with a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Unlike most therapeutic and extemporaneous compounding powders in the marketplace, all of our products – including Give Back Health Clinic Collection L-Theanine – are manufactured and tested in TGA-registered GMP facilities here in Australia, ensuring high standards of quality, safety and efficacy. Every product, every batch, with no exceptions. This means the included ingredients are what they claim to be and the products are therefore more likely to have an actual therapeutic impact. This process also prevents counterfeit and adulterated materials from entering the market. While it adds significantly to our costs, we believe this level of integrity should be the industry standard. Please note that we absorb the extra expense ourselves; it is not passed on to you. The L-theanine we use is premium, biofermented and vegan (it is not derived from green tea).

Practitioner FAQs

Give Back Health Clinic Collection L-Theanine is a practitioner-only nutritional supplement that provides a bio fermented 100% pure medicine-grade L-theanine. It comes in powder form and is designed for extemporaneous compounding and prescribing under practitioner supervision. L-Theanine is a major nonprotein amino acid. It has a fast onset and provides exceptional value in helping promote a relaxed alert state (reducing overwhelm so you can focus) and winding down the mind to block out the noise. L-Theanine shows a high degree of promise in patients experiencing high cortisol on waking. It is also extremely valuable for anticipatory anxiety, sleep disturbances and stress.

  • Promotes a relaxed alert state.
  • Reduces overwhelm to enable focus.
  • Reduces high-cortisol induced excitation on waking.
  • Supports sleep onset and disturbances.
  • Acts rapidly (within 30 mins) to inhibit excitation.
  • Suitable for use both during the day and prior to sleep.

L-theanine crosses the blood-brain barrier and is chemically similar to glutamate. It modulates glutamatergic neurotransmission, may inhibit glutamine binding to glutamate receptors and has been shown to increase GABA, dopamine and serotonin levels. These actions support its calming and focus-enhancing effects.

In short, yes. Powders for extemporaneous compounding sit in a unique therapeutic category with its own set of rules. When you choose to use a compounding powder, the expectation is that you will be combining this with other therapeutic nutrients and ingredients to create a personalised medicine. Single ingredient prescribing is, however, possible with extemporaneous compounding ingredients with best practice to ensure that the amount of product in the jar represents the full course for the patient. The quantity of any ingredient you use will be calculated in relation to the prescription length and daily required dose, which is completely specific to an individual patient’s presentation and needs.

  • L-theanine is generally well tolerated.
  • Antihypertensive drugs: L-theanine might lower blood pressure, potentiating the effects of antihypertensive drugs.

While L-Theanine is not specifically contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation, there is insufficient reliable evidence so we recommend avoid use. Use a risk/benefit approach during pregnancy and lactation due to insufficient safety data.

  • We typically recommend sprinkling into water, stirring fairly vigorously and then leaving for a minute to let it fully dissolve. This more often than not ensures it quickly dissolves into water.
  • The common range for theanine is 100 mg – 400 mg per day. It is well tolerated at these levels.
  • Without knowing your patient’s presentation and requirements, we cannot provide guidelines around appropriate daily dosing and suggest you refer to the literature and common dosage ranges when creating your prescription. Our team of naturopaths are also available for further guidance.

Theanine has a very quick onset. Individuals should experience its effects within 30 minutes, with further improvement by 2-8 weeks.

This product contains no excipients. It is 100% pure L-theanine powder.

Absolutely. This can be mixed with any other powder product in the Give Back Health Clinic Collection. Emerging literature supports its use for stress, cognition and neuroprotection. A suggested starting dose is 200 - 400 mg per day, adjusted as needed. Clinical discretion advised.

We’ve updated the scoop to a deeper, narrower design for more accurate dosing. It still measures 200 mg per level scoop. Some older batches had a 50 mg scoop (check the label or batch code if unsure as it is clearly identified on the left panel of the label).

Currently there are trademark restrictions around L-theanine which means it is exceedingly expensive in capsule form. As a powder form, Give Back Health Clinic Collection L-Theanine offers incredible value for money. We do understand that some practitioners may want to create their own capsules, in which case a size 0 or 00 capsule is generally suitable for 200 mg of L-theanine. If you're aiming for 100 mg doses, you may prefer a size 1. Always use a micro-scale or measured scoop for accuracy.
